BSMART™: Closing the Loop in the Circular Economy

BSMART is a proven technology, already used to build homes and government-backed infrastructure, with a $10 million federal grant secured for commercialisation. Our patented process transforms industrial and construction waste into high-quality, international-standard bricks and blocks, reducing reliance on Portland cement and cleaning up legacy waste. Uniquely, we also help bauxite processors recapture valuable caustic, boosting their efficiency and ROI. We’re not just making bricks – we’re unlocking a multi-billion-dollar global market by turning waste into infrastructure and profit.

Solving Critical Waste Challenges

Industrial Waste

Blast furnace processes generate significant industrial waste. BSMART™ has reclaimed this waste and converted it into high-quality prototype "green bricks," pavers, and roofing tiles.

Research with University of Adelaide, University of SA, and Nyrstar has successfully converted industrial waste to industry-approved construction materials. Passed Australian Standards tests (2014-2018).

Tire Waste

In Australia, 100 motor vehicle tires are scrapped every minute, with 50 million annually reaching "end of life." USA: 290 million; Globally: 3 billion.

BSMART™ "green bricks" have been produced using crumbed rubber in low-carbon, environmentally friendly, Australian Standard bricks.

More Waste Solutions

Water Treatment Waste

For utilities ensuring pure potable water, essential filtration processes generate significant industrial waste.

BSMART™ recycles this waste and lowers internal costs by manufacturing environmentally friendly, low-carbon "green bricks" for onsite use, converting waste streams into revenue streams through sales of Australian Standard bricks and pavers.

Five PhD research projects: 2018-2019; additional PhD research 2021-2022

Results published in Elsevier: "Properties and microstructure of concrete blocks incorporating drinking water treatment sludge exposed to early-age carbonation curing."

Alumina Processing Waste

Alumina processing generates contaminated industrial waste ("red mud").

BSMART™ competed rigorous research with UniSA and Monash University, with support from ALCOA, resulting in the draft paper "Valorisation of red mud on concrete blocks manufactured by a dry mix method."

Chemo-mechanical research successfully converted bauxite processing residue to pavers, sequestering carbon and locking up contaminants. Favorable Stage A, B, and C test results by Dec 2022, progressing to weathering and leachate tests.
